TIME TO BELT UP WITH DRUH?

It was at a golf day that I first came across a Druh belt and realised that this was the brand I had started to notice being worn by top golf professionals such as Lee Westwood. It wasn’t long before a Druh belt was not only keeping my trousers up but also adding a stylish touch to my golf attire.

Druh Belts & Buckles is the brainchild of Touring Professional Simon Hurd – if you hadn’t worked it out already DRUH is Hurd backwards! The Englishman, known as Hurdy on the European and Asian Tours, was known for the distinctive and colourful pork pie hats he donned on the golf course, but is now better recognised for his distinguished belt range.

“Even as a golf pro, I have always taken an interest in fashion both on and off the golf course, so it seemed a natural progression for me to go into the fashion world,” says Hurdy, a smart dresser with well-tailored attire. “I soon realised that looking smart means playing smart.”

Druh’s designs have fast become the professionals’ belt of choice, with the likes of previously mentioned Lee Westwood, John Daly, Robert Karlsson, Paul McGinley and Thongchai Jaidee joining a host of other European and Asian Tour players, as well as LPGA and LET players, in choosing them. His lead with these products is one which many other golf equipment brands have tried to follow but in my opinion haven’t quite met in either the look or product quality a good belt deserves.

"Golf gear has always been perceived as rather staid and dull, so I wanted to have a bit of fun designing belts and buckles that were a little bit funky, yet stylish, and certainly they have been an instant hit with pro golfers all over the world.”

When I first met Simon I was impressed by someone who had spotted a gap in the market and was also trying to launch a new brand in golf. So when I was looking for some other lifestyle products to add to my core range of Golf Timepieces it seemed natural to explore a belt option. Now whilst I really like Simon’s colourful sense of adventure with some of his belt and buckle designs,  I had found for myself that a DRUH belt was not only something I wanted to wear on the golf course but a belt that I was quite happy to wear with some smart chinos or jeans. That’s the reason why the ETIQUS belt that has been designed, with the help of Simon’s team, with a more traditional look with a prong buckle. It’s equally at home on the golf course or off it, with the size and steel finish complementing my Sport Pro and Sport Tour collections, especially those with a leather strap.

We’ve teed off the range initially with Black and White strap colours and we’ll look to add other options as we develop the strap choices for our timepieces.  If you would like something a little louder and more colourful then I’d recommend you take a look at Simon’s full range on www.druhbeltsandbuckles.com - there's some crackers on there!

Enjoy belting up!
